What is progress without peace? Every day we read news stories about violence and crime occurring, if not where we live then surely someplace elsewhere in the world. If you are troubled as I am and compelled to act, then this blog for you. This is David Turlington, and I am an advocate of peace by way of education about other people’s cultures.
My belief is that peace can finally be achieved when every single person has learned unconditional empathy and compassion, and what better way to hone such values than through travel? Traveling is an enriching activity that can serve as the means to bridge even the most diverse of cultures. Travel provides one the opportunity to understand and immerse one’s self in the realities of others. Through it, one’s eyes, ears, and hearts are opened.
It is my hope that this blog of mine, which will contain details about my travels, will impart valuable lessons on the link between peace, culture, and travel. Other topics you may expect to read about are the world’s top religions, namely Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. Having travelled extensively the past few years, I have seen time and time again how culture and religion are inextricably linked to one another. One cannot hope to talk about culture without getting into some form of discussion about religion and vice versa. With that said, I have taken on a keen interest in learning about religions as well.
I am also a Social Worker. Due to the nature of my work, I have been exposed to many forms of suffering, as experienced by the people I help. What they have gone through and are going through only strengthens my resolve to continue advocating for peace through education.
I hope you will help me in my mission. This is David Turlington and thanks for your time.
